C ++ STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION error when starting a program

Every time I run the program, this cryptic error pops up saying that I have some access status violations. I tried googling it and all it came up with was that I can try to access some memory that is not allowed. Help would be much appreciated!

You declare StackItem *newItem;

which is a pointer, but you never initialize it with anything, so its content is undefined. Then, once you do newItem->...

, your program will crash as it does not point to any valid memory.



The solution would be to add a few newItem = new StackItem

here and there to create real objects. And, naturally, a constructor (or several) of a class StackItem

would be very welcome.

You haven't initialized the pointer newItem

, but you are dereferencing it.

Also, you said cin.getline

that a 50 byte character is 51 bytes wide.
