How do I use XStream in Mule?

I have written three classes that implement XStream. It dumps / discards the next XML file.

How do I use these classes in Mule? It is one class that uses the other two, so it only uses one class.

I am getting XML as above. I want to convert it to an object.

It works in plain Java, but how to use it in a stream. Getting all possible exceptions from Mule.

Although this is not my real code. But how do you feel about OOTB? This doesn't work either. Have tried without File-2-String.

Problem

The default Object to XML transformer only supports the alias annotation for classes:

<mulexml:object-to-xml-transformer doc:name="Object to XML">

and ignores any other annotation. There is already an issue from July 2012 on the official bug tracker, but it still hasn't been resolved.

Solution: Custom XML to Object Converter

1. Create a transformer



Create your own transformer in Java that extends AbstractMessageTransformer

:

public class ObjectToXml extends AbstractMessageTransformer {

  public Object transformMessage(MuleMessage message, String outputEncoding) throws TransformerException {

    XStream xstream = new XStream();

    // The payload should be the object to transform into XML
    Object object = message.getPayload();

    message.setPayload(xstream.toXML(object));

  }

2.Use your own transformer in the Mule stream

Add to Java Transfromer stream (not Java component):

I was unable to set it up xml-to-object-transformer

, so it works OOTB with your annotated XStream classes. The only way I was able to load the XML sample above and successfully complete your stream process is using Spring to create and configure an XStream like below:

That being said, use instead xml-to-object-transformer

I realize this isn't super great, so hopefully someone else has a better solution.

The Xml to object uses Xstream, so it should work OOTB.
