Windows Vista / 7 Software login

Is it possible to create a service or application that can programmatically register a user when windows are launched (vista / win7) ... if the user has a token like biometrics or smart card

Yes it is possible. In older (XP and earlier) windows, this object was called GINA . In Vista and Win 7 the architecture has changed ... you need to create a Credential Provider . Previous link to review article, link here to samples .
