Replication from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2012

I was wondering if there are issues with having a SQL Server 2012 Replication Publisher along with some SQL Server 2005 Replication Subscribers?

Does anyone have any documentation from Microsoft regarding this?

I ask because my colleague keeps telling us that it won't work.

Does this also happen the other way around? (2012 = Subscriber and 2005 = Publisher)

Depending on the type of replication used ...

From MSDN :



  • The Transaction Publishing Subscriber can be any version in two versions of the Publisher version. For example: SQL There may be SQL Server 2012 subscribers to run Server 2005; and SQL Server 2012 Publisher can have SQL Server 2005 Subscribers.

  • The mail merge subscriber can be any version less than or equal to the Publisher version.
