Line number color in vim hardcopy

When I type from vim with hardcopy

, I get lines printed in red with syntax highlighting. I tried to change the color following the guidelines here VIM Initial Settings: Change the background color for the line number on the left side? ... But it looks like it would only affect the line numbers on the screen. It is discussed here: http://marc.info/?l=vim-dev&m=101738036626869&w=2 that printing should be added to correct the color. Since the post is older, I wonder if such a feature exists today.
