Android and Google Wallet - must you buy at the same time?

Is Google Wallet an online payment system on Android phones required for, for example, videos, songs or game levels, the same as Apple's Strong> In-App Purchase works on iOS?

As per the information here, "Developers offering additional content, goods, or services for an application downloaded from Android Market must provide an authorized payment processor as a payment option."

  • Our understanding is that if a user has installed an application that plays movies and users pay for one application for watching movies, then they need to use Google Wallet, otherwise it can be removed from Google Play. It's right?

  • A similar situation is in the game if the user wants to pay for an additional level. It is right?

You do not need to use Google Wallet to subscribe (again, a similar situation is observed in iOS).

I had an application with an integrated LogiaMobile billing connection and was rejected by Google Play for this very reason (it was in September 2011). The app tried to bill users when they want to download a video.

Find a good explanation of the policies in this Techcrunch article

My advice would be to always integrate Google In-App billing (now v3 is much more convenient to work with).

Hope this is what you asked for :)

Google Wallet is a confusing name because it can refer to different things. First up is the Google Wallet app that allows you to pay for your phone via NFC. You certainly don't need this to buy stuff from the Play Store, and is only supported in the US and on a limited number of devices. Google Wallet also refers to Google's online payment system (aka Google Checkout). You need to register your credit card to make purchases on Android. In most cases, it is used as an "authorized payment processor". Others - operator billing on supported media.
