Export corporate Gmail emails matching a search query

I was unable to find a plug-in or tool that will allow me to export my Gmail emails based on a search term such as "baseball".

Ultimately I want to export all emails to PDF.

I didn't find many options, one of which I looked was MailExporter, but it doesn't seem to have the search capability I need.

There are many options. It's just a matter of finding the one that suits your requirements and works in your environment. I don't think you will find a plugin or solution that does exactly what you want. You will most likely have to combine multiple solutions.

Exporting Gmail messages to text or HTML files - This WebApps question has some helpful guidelines. I pulled out more relevant answers.

  • got-your-back - Got back: Gmail Backup

Selective backups with search in Gmail

GYB supports selective backups using Gmail style mailbox search. For example, let's say you only wanted to back up an important or captured message:

    gyb --email youremail@gmail.com --search "is:important OR is:starred"

will cause GYB to only copy messages matching this search term. Pretty much any Gmail search will work with GYB.

  • via https://webapps.stackexchange.com/a/493

Use a local POP client, [suggest] Thunderbird. Outlook uses a proprietary format for its local data store.

Emails are saved as text files, one file per folder.

This is the correct answer, except for using IMAP so that you can pull out all messages with a specific tag (tags will appear as folders in the [Gmail] folder). Also, if you have a lot of email, turn on Advanced IMAP Management, then under Manage Shortcuts, turn off IMAP access for all folders except the one you want to download.

Other options - slightly limited depending on your requirements.

There are many options, but I think this might help you:

There are many advantages to email archiving. The most important are:

  • Recover lost or accidentally deleted emails
  • Faster audit response
  • Preservation of intellectual property
  • "eDiscovery" for forensic or internal investigations.

I hope you were helpful
