Are different product links good or bad for SEO?

Opencart produces various links for a product such as:

website.com/product_name
website.com/category/product_name
website.com/category/subcategory/product_name
website.com/brand/product_name
etc.

It is based on the listing page you are accessing the product. My question is, is using different product / content links beneficial or harmful for SEO? I'll do it with one link if it's harmful or unnecessary.

Personally, I think this is bad for SEO. From what Google says, it really doesn't matter much as it just ignores duplicate content, not penalizing as some suggest - and there is a canonical URL on every product page that Google will use again. However, if you are looking for something to make your URL more consistent, I have an extension (commercial) that makes them the same all over the site (and also makes the pages breadcrumbs the same)
