Repair installation and service packs

What happens if:

  • I am installing VS2010.
  • I am installing VS2010 SP1.
  • I am running VS2010 Repair installation due to some issue in VS2010.

At this point, do I need to install SP1 again? In simple terms, is it enough to improve Installation Repair so that newer versions of files (with SP1) are not overwritten with the old ones that it has? Or could it be that Repair Install will simply unload everything to its original state?

After repair, you must reapply service packs and swaps.

After you uninstall a service pack or rollup, you must also repair Visual Studio before reapplying it.
