Google Maps Store Locator - change default example

I am trying to create a store locator based on the static csv example used by Google http://storelocator.googlecode.com/git/examples/panel.html

I have recreated this example on my own server, but if I edit the csv file in any way, even if I just delete some of the lines, it returns an empty map.

I was hoping I could use this example as a template, replacing the defaults in the csv file with my own ( http://storelocator.googlecode.com/git/examples/medicare.csv ), Obviously this is more than I assumed. and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction in terms of why I can't just edit the fields in CSV with my own values and what else do I need to edit?

This is their home page http://storelocator.googlecode.com/git/index.html

I have searched the internet for a way to do this and now I have asked this question as I am struggling to find an answer.

It seems when I opened in excel it reformatted the csv file and made it not work. When I edit fields from csv in notepad ++ it works. I apologize for the useless question. Thanks to Dr. Molle for getting my attention.
