Impossible style popupmenu background color with material theme

I am using @android: style / Theme.Material.Light.DarkActionBar as the base for my theme in my -21 folder.

Now I would like to change so that the spinners in the action bar as well as the dropdownmenu for the overflow button are styled from the Light material theme, black text on white background.

But I can't get it to work, I have searched like crazy, tried all the methods I can find, but they don't seem to work in preview L. I also looked at google app i / o -14, but it's hard for me to understand what.
