Google Chrome returns 503 services unavailable

Recently I have a problem with Google Chrome. Some sites, apparently completely random, are returning a "Service Not Available" 503 error. The last one I got was from my hosting provider when trying to access my CPanel. I can access the same URL entirely in Firefox or IE. It seems to be isolated from Chrome.

I've tried the following:

  • Disable all extensions
  • Login to / from your Google account
  • Reset all caches and history

So far, nothing seems to fix the problem. This is getting more and more aggravating from what was once a fairly robust browser.

I am running:

Windows 7 Chrome version 36.0.1985.143 m

I faced the same problem. Most of this happened on intranet sites at work, but it happened to a few external sites. Loading in IE Tab will work fine.

I was able to fix the problem by updating to 64-bit Chrome. I'm not sure why this is fixed, but I think it has something to do with a conflict between Java and Chrome (It looks like I have 64-bit and 32-bit Java installed side by side).
