Google Play Services - Push Notification

Currently on my app that uses Google Play Services, when a user invites another to play (real-time multiplayer), Play Games warns the receiving user that there is a pending game. But it doesn't send a notification, so the receiving user will need to know that they are receiving an invitation (that is, it doesn't appear on the phone's status bar like all other notifications, but it does show when you pull out the status bar). Is there a way to alert the user?
