UnregisteredNodeException causing dataNode on slave to trigger a failure

I have a Hadoop 2.5 cluster of two machines, on the slave, the node data is failing with UnregisteredNodeException

. Here's the basic configuration:

master$ jps
5036 Jps
7145 DataNode
918 ResourceManager
7338 SecondaryNameNode
6986 NameNode
1105 NodeManager

For a subordinate

slave$ jps
15950 Jps
26650 NodeManager

Here is the complete stack trace from hadoop-hadoop-datanode-slave.log

:

When I issue hdfs dfsadmin -report

to either of the two machines, I see the following:

Also, I can see / control the slave computer from the Resource Manger web interface, so what is causing this failure and how can I fix it?

I actually duplicated the vm to create slave machines that lead to a situation where all nodes have the same UUID. So (as discussed here ) I disabled the services on the slave:

hadoop-daemon.sh stop datanode
yarn-daemon.sh stop nodemanager

Then I deleted the datanode and namenode directories (in dfs.datanode.data.dir

and out dfs.namenode.data.dir

respectively). Then restart datanode and namenode. Now I can see how datanode works:

$ jps
17135 NodeManager
17290 DataNode
18221 Jps
