How to use Cache Control and ETag to set HTTP headers

I want to use Cache Control and ETag on my joomla website as suggested by google. But I have no idea how to do it. I searched for it a lot but could not find a single harsh example.

Can someone tell me how to do this .. ??

For Cache Control I found this example, but this is the complete syntax .. ?? and where to put it in the <head>

file tag index.php

??.

Also please tell me the ETag syntax and where it was written.

For this you can use your .htaccess file in the root directory of your site. You will find many variations on specifics, here's the full one from http://www.siteground.com/tutorials/joomla/joomla-speed.htm#htaccess .

Using a text editor add the following to your .htaccess file

EDIT If your goal is to improve your YSlow score and you are not using these tags for any other purpose, it may be better to set the ETag below:

FileETag none

## This rule will create an ETag for files based only on the modification
## timestamp and their size.
## Note: It may cause problems on your server and you may need to remove it
## Note: See comments above about why you might want to set the following to FileETag none
