Websphere in RAD hangs on startup

We had this issue in RAD 7 with Websphere 7 and it was an incompatible inconvenience, but we are migrating to RAD 9 with Websphere 8.5.5 and it is a BIG COMMON issue.

What happens is that when the application server starts, it claims to finish launching, but the status from the servers tab does not end and RAD seems to almost lose conversation with the server. In the end, he reports that the server hasn't started for 300 seconds and tries to stop it, but after losing connectivity, it doesn't actually stop.

If you look at the Task Manager, in fact the server is up and running. The browser talks to webapps (assuming they were published in a previous session). If you restart RAD, RAD will bring up the connection with the server and everything will work fine. But you had to reboot to get there.

In RAD 7, this happened intermittently. Now that we are testing RAD 9, it happens EVERY time. What's the fix / workaround for this?

You can increase the server startup time limits: double-click the server (on the Servers tab), expand Timeouts, and increase the default startup timeout of 300 seconds.
