Custom domain name for an azure site deployment slot?

I have a web site on azure with a second deployment slot. Let's say his example.azurewebsites.net

and example-staging.azurewebsites.net

. When I try to add a custom domain (i.e. stage.example.com

) it tells me that I have to do a stage.example.com

CNAME first example(staging).azurewebsites.net

. This last part ... it doesn't work. Domains cannot have (s) in them. Is this a bug in Azure or am I missing something?

The message is incorrect. Please refer to the post on the full Azure portal (manage.windowsazure.com): "To verify authorization, create a CNAME resource record with your DNS provider that points to www.yourdomain.com at example-staging.azurewebsites.net, or from awverify.www.yourdomain.com to awverify.example-staging.azurewebsites.net.

This was fixed in the latest UX redesign for App Service custom domains.
