What markup should be used to describe social media links using schema.org?

I have a place / local business that has various fields that match very well with schema.org entries. There is one field, but I'm not sure how to mark up. We have links to business social media such as their Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest account. How should they be tagged in schema.org?

There is a proposal for a propertysocialAccount

(and another one ) and an older discussion on property account

. Related issue on Schema.orgs GitHub Social account proposal (no comments yet).

But these properties don't exist yet (if they come at all).

Of the currently available properties url

, sameAs

and contactPoint

come to mind:

  • url

    can be used if it is (only) the url of the object
  • sameAs

    can be used if a social media account represents / identifies exactly the same entity (organization, person, etc.).
  • contactPoint

    can be used if the social media account allows the object to be linked

<div itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/Organization">
  <link itemprop="url" href="http://www.your-company-site.com">
  <a itemprop="sameAs" href="http://www.facebook.com/your-company">FB</a>
  <a itemprop="sameAs" href="http://www.twitter.com/YourCompany">Twitter</a>
</div>
