Editing an existing Excel file c # npoi

I want with a C # console app to open an existing excel file and add content to it. NPOI 2.1.1.0

My first approach was to just add the value to the last shape of the cell, which I resolved to solve my other problem.
This will read the file with new content correctly, but it won't save it.

Output:

"Unable to access closed file."

I tried adding the following, but the result is an empty file that won't open.

file.Write(bytes, 0, bytes.Length);
file.Close();

I also tried to put only hssfwb in the scope of use, changed the file to Append / openorcreate / truncate added if the entry is checked with no results.

However, one solution would be to read the file, convert it to datatable, create a new excel file and fill it with data.

What am I doing wrong? Can anyone shed some light on this? I looked at the Npoi Example package in vain.

Well it looks like the constructor is HSSFWorkbook

closing the filestream after reading from it.

The simple and straightforward solution is to open the file for reading, create HSSFWorkbook

, do what you want in this book, and then reopen the file to write and write to it.

Safe to use hssfwb

out of scope using

because itself HSSFWorkbook

does not contain a link to the file it was read from (as long as I see it in the NPOI sources).



So your code might look like this:

I find NPOI very useful for working with Excel files, here is my implementation with version 2 (Spanish comments, sorry about that):

This method Opens an Excel file (both xls or xlsx) and converts it to a DataTable.

This second method does oposite, saves DataTable to Excel file, yes it can be xls or new xlsx, your choice!

With these two methods, you can open the Excel file, load it into the DataTable, make changes, and save it back to the Excel file.
