Custom error handling with retrofitting when obfuscated with proguard gives java.lang.reflect.UndeclaredThrowableException

Have written error handling for modification. The code works fine when minifyEnabled false

. When I enable proguard I get the following exception

Error handler

public class RestErrorHandler implements ErrorHandler {

@Override
public Throwable handleError(RetrofitError cause) {
    Response r = cause.getResponse();

    if (r != null && r.getStatus() == 400) {

        try {
            RestError mRestError = (RestError) cause.getBodyAs(RestError.class);
            final String exception = mRestError.getMessages().get(0);
            return new UnauthorizedException(exception);
        } catch (Exception e) {
            e.printStackTrace();
            LogUtility.NoteLog(e);
        }
    }
    return cause;
}

I am new to using proguard and modification. I cannot figure out how to handle the exception.

Proguard removes the default Exception attributes.

-keepattributes Exceptions

will make sure yours Throwable

stays in your code after obfuscation.

It looks like it UnauthorizedException

is a checked exception (continues from Exception

, not RuntimeException

), which means you need to declare a clause throws

on all of your service interfaces.

interface MyService {
  @GET("/")
  Something doSomething() throws UnauthorizedException;
}
