.7z file header structure?
Searching the net I could find a general overview of the structure of the rar format. http://www.rarlab.com/technote.htm
But what I'd love to get is how 7z files are segmented into blocks.

Refer to the DOC / 7zFormat.txt file in the source distribution.

To better understand the file format, you can use hachoir-wx to navigate the archive down to the bit level: https://bitbucket.org/haypo/hachoir/wiki/Home . Their parser supports 7zip among many other file formats.
