Is android iconography design guide valid for Android 5 / Material design
The images in the Iconography Design Guidelines have not been updated to Material Design. Does Android 5 / Material design guidelines persist?

Yes and no.
Regarding sizes (size of launcher icons and action bar icons, and s), the recommendations are correct.
In terms of styling, there are Material Design changes described in the Style → Icons section . Indeed, some of the Holo symbols (like edit and delete) are even used as examples of "bad" icons for Material Design.
