Was the tracking validation for the Google Analytics Web Device campaign checked in v3 or v4?

The Google Analytics SDK v2 for Android has a Known Issues section that says "Google Play Campaign Measurement does not currently support web device installs initiated from the Play Store

There is no known issues section in the v4 documentation , and it also applies to v3 .

Does anyone know if the issue with "Internet Device" measurements has been resolved in v3 or v4?

From what I've read in various places, the problem is that "INSTALL_REFERRER" is not broadcast by the system when the app was installed from the play store on the desktop.
