Missing header files when installing packages with pip
I was trying to get mysql to work with django. Installing the required bindings in virtualenv using pip generates an error.
pip install MySQL-python
The package is loading, but I get the following error when the header file my_config.h is missing.

yum install -y gcc gcc-c++ libxml2-devel libxslt-devel
I also ran
yum groupinstall "Development Tools" "Development Libraries"
The problem persists. Is the package the problem or any missing dependencies?

You need to install the header files for the mysql library. I don't know, for your distribution, on Ubuntu the package name libmysqlclient-dev
.
BTW, if starting a new project, I would recommend PostgreSQL over MySQL because MySQL support is unclear at best.
edit: everything will change, there are now bindings for Python 3
