Android Eclipse - increasing side margins on my desk

I am a little confused on how to increase the overall width of mine TableLayout

to get closer to the sides of the screen.

I'm not sure if I will adjust this in the actual TableLayout

or in the parent RelativeLayout

... ??

Any thoughts?

You can use match_parent

in your table layout so that it spans the full width of the parent and then adjusts the left and right padding to generate the splitting you want. Keep in mind that you already have padding defined in your relative position, so you will need to play with both values.

<TableLayout
    android:id="@+id/tableLayout1"
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content"
    android:paddingLeft="10dp"
    android:paddingRight="10dp"
    android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"
    android:layout_centerHorizontal="true" >

You set android:layout_width="wrap_content"

in TableLayout

, which makes it wide enough to show all your content. Try using this match_parent

to get the full width of the parent:

<TableLayout
    android:id="@+id/tableLayout1"
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content"
    android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"
    android:layout_centerHorizontal="true" >

One more thing that squeezes your TableLayout

downward:

android:paddingBottom="@dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
android:paddingLeft="@dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
android:paddingRight="@dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
android:paddingTop="@dimen/activity_vertical_margin"

in the parent RelativeLayout

. If the first step doesn't suit your needs, you can try setting lower values paddingLeft

and paddingRight

.

try to edit this

    <RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"

tools:context="com.example.funkycalc.MainActivtiy\" >

<TableLayout
    android:id="@+id/tableLayout1"
    android:layout_width="wrap_content"
    android:layout_height="match_parent"
    android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"
    android:layout_centerHorizontal="true" >

fill values were a problem ...
