Where exactly did Xcode say to build i386 and x86_64 for the simulator?

I can't find anything in the build settings related to the simulator. How does architecture change on i386 and x86_64 when building for a simulator?

I am trying to understand the build process in order to create a live iOS 8 Cocoa Touch Framework binary for a simulator and a device that contains each architecture.
