Java JNI EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION

I am new to JNI and am trying to get a simple Hello World program to work with Windows 7 and the cygwin gcc compiler. Here are the various components:

Hello.java:

Then I run the following list of commands to create the .h file:

javac Hello.java
javah Hello

      

This automatically creates a Hello.h file. For completeness, what's here:

Then I compile / link the c code using the following command:

Finally, I recompile the java file. (Do I really need to do this?):

javac Hello.java

      

I use this Makefile (and I'm also relatively new to creating Makefiles) to complete all the steps with a single make command:

I followed the guide, essentially a line from this site . The only thing I could not replicate was the -mno-cygwin option, because I am using gcc version 4.9.2 and this option is unrecognized.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Many thanks!

It definitely turned out to be a Cygwin environment. I switched to an Ubuntu distro and the related tutorial worked as advertised.
