What is the current state of mDNS on Windows?

It used to be that Windows would resolve multicast DNS addresses (for example example.local

) if iTunes was installed. Is this still true or has it changed in recent versions of Windows? (I gave up on Windows years ago, and so I can't easily verify myself.)

DNS-SD and mDNS are available in a new extension for Windows.Devices.Eneration in Windows 10.

(Side note on these slides: the watchcher.Updated handler must be set for the watcher. Added to run.)

The latest Windows 10 Insider has mDNS firewall rules and added mDNS and DNS-SD code in all major Windows libraries. As such, the state is likely to become full support in a future Windows update.
