How to remove greyed out xml tags in Intellij IDEA?

In IntelliJ IDEA, XML is grayed out:

Is there a way to remove it?

Go to Settings / Editor / Colors and Fonts / Default Language, select Markup Label from the list, and uncheck Background.

You may need to save the color scheme using Save As first, because you cannot change the default color scheme.
