Android how to switch using toolbar button to open / close nav drawer using fragments

I am new to Android Development after reading a lot of tutorials and documentation and spent some time finally I managed to create a navigation drawer using the toolbar. but currently the problem is that I can only open the drawer by scrolling from the left side of the screen (not being able to open / close the drawer with the toolbar). I don't know how in onCreateView I can access the id of the navigation box that is not set in onCreateView setContentView but it is set in onCreate SetContentView of that class. I am using fragments. I am attaching all my code, would appreciate it if someone could tell using the toolbar button (id burger_btn) how I can change my code to open and close the drawer. Thanks to

If you want to open / close the navigation drawer from the toolbar, try changing the location navigation_drawer

as follows:

<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
   android:layout_width="match_parent"
   android:layout_height="match_parent"
   >

  <android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar
    android:id="@+id/toolbar"
    android:minHeight="?attr/actionBarSize"
    android:height="@dimen/activity_header_height"
    android:background="@color/light_green"
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content">

</android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar>

<android.support.v4.widget.DrawerLayout
    xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
    android:id="@+id/drawer_layout"
    android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="match_parent"
    tools:context=".DashboardActivity">

    <FrameLayout android:id="@+id/container"
       android:layout_width="match_parent"
       android:layout_height="match_parent"
      />

    <fragment android:id="@+id/navigation_drawer"
         android:layout_width="240dp" android:layout_height="match_parent"
         android:layout_gravity="start"
         android:name="com.packageName.NavigationDrawerFragment"
         tools:layout="@layout/fragment_navigation_drawer" />

  </android.support.v4.widget.DrawerLayout>

</LinearLayout>

and accordingly move the toolbar related codes from Fragment to Activity
