How do I rename a virtual machine in the Azure portal?

At https://portal.azure.com on the Browse All Resources page there is a Name column. How do I change the name of a resource?

I look around but I cannot find this option. Is not allowed?

I have already changed the hostname of the VM, but for consistency I would like the Name to match the hostname, otherwise I always need to remember that the VM foo_x matches the machine with the hostname foo_y and the domain name foo_z.cloudapp.net.

You cannot change the name of the virtual machine in the portal as this is the DNS name (i.e. * .cloudapp.net) that belongs to the cloud service. If you want to change the DNS name, you need to delete the cloud service, recreate it using the new name, and then redeploy the virtual machine inside it (delete the virtual machine keeping all the disks that were attached to it, then re-create the virtual machine with the new name and reconnect the disks that were attached to the original virtual machine).
