Postgres.app won't start

I have Yosemite

been up and running Postgres.app

without problems for several months now. I started the application today and got this error

Could not initialize database cluster.
initdb: could not create directory "I": Permission denied

What could be causing this and what can I do to fix it?

This also confused me. It turns out I typed in by mistake when the settings dialog was opened, which changed the data directory. Using "default" fixed my problem.
