What is the exact difference between b \ w homekit and external structure of accessories?

I am new to ios and I doubt that external infrastructure needs to be used to implement the homekit / healthkit framework. I mean homekit / healthkit framework, can we communicate directly with MFi devices, without involving external accessories. ...... pls guide.

Thanks in advance..:)

Homekit Framework used for communication between the included HAP (Homekit Accessory protocol) and an iOS device. Like a light bulb, door lock, bridge (which further connects to zigbee / zwave devices).

An external accessory infrastructure used to communicate with external equipment / device using a dock connector or bluetooth. Like heart rate monitor, smart thermometer, etc.

The iOS app can connect to a HAP enabled device that has implemented MFi authentication using the Homekit framework. No need to include / use external infrastructure.

However, if the HAP Accessory (Bridge / Garage door) has wifi, then the iOS app needs to use external infrastructure.

For the Healthkit to connect to an external accessory (such as a heart rate monitor) that usually has a bluetooth / docking connector, you may need to use the external accessory infrastructure.
