Failed to delete text in excel cell

I have an excel sheet with a value in a cell, I cannot clear the contents of that cell no matter what I try, when I enter something new into the cell, the text stays at the top of the cell and new content is added at the bottom.

When I select a cell and look at the formula bar, it is nothing to boot. I cannot overlay any objects or even pictures on it, which it always shows from above.

I removed all conditional formatting back there.

Here is a screenshot from the text

This happens when you select an area around the thing and the mouse pointer turns into an arrow instead of the + sign normally when you are on the sheet.

I would recreate the book by saving it as a different format, something like the .CSV file mentioned in the comments. Double check that only what you want is in that .CSV file using Notepad, Wordpad, Notepad ++ or the like, and then import that file into a new table. You can also save it as .xlsx which will remove all macros from the workbook.

If that doesn't solve the problem, I would wonder if something in Excel would have the same behavior for a new workbook with different data. If the new book has the same behavior, then there is some VBA code (or whatever), if not, then it has something to do with the book you are using. Narrowing it down helps to solve problems like this one.

If all else fails, you can try using ASAP utilities to remove macros from the workbook, if available. I also found an article that uses VBA Macro to remove all other VBA code ( http://www.vbaexpress.com/kb/getarticle.php?kb_id=93 ).
