Permission allowed but ssh with key works

UPDATE: Thanks for the feedback. As expected, this turned out to be a mistake in my head. I did not provide the correct username when I ran the command ansible

. If you run ansible

without any username ( -u

), it will use your current system username. In my case, this was swill

when I wanted to run it as root

.

Now this works:
ansible all -m ping -u root

I'm pretty confused. I can ssh to the box using the public key without any problem, but when I try to use unsible to connect, I don't get any love.

Note. I use it <ip_address>

as an IP so it doesn't show my actual IP ...

My local /etc/ansible/hosts

has

<ip_address>

I can ssh to a remote box using my default ssh key:

$ ssh root@<ip_address>

I am installing ssh on a remote box using:

$ cat ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub | ssh <user>@<ip_address> "mkdir -p ~/.ssh && cat >> ~/.ssh/authorized_keys"

Content of my remote file /etc/ssh/sshd_config

It is sometimes useful to re-run the command using -vvvv, which prints SSH debug output to help diagnose the issue.

I would appreciate it if someone could help me understand why I am an idiot and cannot figure it out. :) Thanks ...

I'm having a problem: Permission denied (publickey, gssapi-keyex, gssapi-with-mic).

The problem was permissions with the server (ssh). I fixed it by giving the correct permissions for the .ss file and authorized_keys as shown below: 1.chmod 700.ssh 2.chmod 600.ssh / authorized_keys
