Best Current Android Emulation Options

My requirements

• Run Android on x86_64 processor (preferred x86 / x86_64 binaries)
• Run inside KVM / Qemu or X.
• Fast (possibly better execution)
• Install apps from the Google Play store
• Stable enough not to spin too often.

Not required : GPU acceleration (graphics intensive applications will not be used)

Android x86 has been around for quite some time now and the last build they have is 4.4 and has been since January 1, 2015. Seems older than I expected?

I see that the official Android emulator now has acceleration-vm, but I have not seen a performance comparison between it and Android x86.

In case of ARM dependency

If I find that some application that I need will not run on x86, what is my second best alternative that can emulate ARM with good performance on an x86_64 processor?

Any guidance to help you with this is greatly appreciated.
