Timing AWS EC2 Uptime

Is there any AWS API for determining the runtime of an ec2 instance, that is, for example, I have an instance of VM1 that was loaded at 10:00 and then shut down at, say, 15:00 and loaded again at 17:00, etc. ...

I need this kind of timing information for an application I'm building.
