How to connect to Wi-Fi programmatically

I am trying to connect to a new wifi network using an app, not android wifi settings followed by code, but it looks like the corresponding android sdk classes allow you to connect to a network already saved in android and not any new network. Am I right in thinking what?

I just got this working on my home WiFi network with WPA2 authentication.

Your disconnect code works fine as it is. I was able to connect and disconnect buttons multiple times.

For your WEP network, try the following:
