MP3 Audio support in browsers

I am curious about audio support in web browsers. My site has some MP3 audio and it works great. However, I am wondering if the MP3 file format is supported in all browsers? if not, should it be saved in other formats as well?

If you use the audio> tag, then according to the Mozilla docs, the MP3 decoder support is almost universal.



  • Internet Explorer always.
  • Chrome always.
  • Safari always.
  • Firefox / Firefox for Android / Firefox OS - when the operating system provides an MP3 decoder
