Why would IntelliJ be able to see my application context, but when I run my tests, they don't see it?

I had some JUnit tests that worked fine. They recently stopped working, without any changes to the code itself. I am guessing that some changes may have happened to the config settings somewhere, but I cannot figure out where the problem is.

I have a test that looks like this:

@RunWith(SpringJUnit4ClassRunner.class)
@ContextConfiguration(locations="classpath:ApplicationContext.xml")
public class MyTests {

    @Autowired
    MyTestClass myClass

    @Test
    public void myFirstTest() {
        // Test code
    }

}

The directory structure looks like this:

  • MyPackage
    • test
      • Java
        • MyTests
    • resources
      • applicationContext.xml

The most confusing thing about all of this is that IntelliJ understands where the context is. It links to it in my code, I can see the sheet annotation and I can click on it to bring up the correct application context, and next to the auto-updated annotation bean I see a small bean icon and when I click on it and that takes me to the definition inside the application context. So I know it is there and can be read. So why can't JUnit see this? What configuration did I manage to lose / change?

NOTE. I am trying to do both debug / run tests through IntelliJ.

Just try this:

@ContextConfiguration(locations="classpath:ApplicationContext.xml")

change to:

@ContextConfiguration(locations={"classpath:**/ApplicationContext.xml"})
