Why are uppercase letters not normal in url

I have visited many sites, most of which used lowercase letters in the URL, for example

stackoverflow.com/questions
google.com/webmaster
bing.com/news

Why isn't capitalization more common? Is there a problem with using uppercase letters in the URL? Is this a programming language problem?

URLs are usually not case sensitive, and lowercase are only used for stylistic purposes, and so they don't look like the URLs scream at you. You can still find capital letters in URLs. For example, Amazon product pages use numbers and capital letters for the product ID. You can change letters to lowercase and download the same page.
