RecyclerView class android.support.v7.recyclerview.R $ style could not be found

I am using RecyclerView in my application, but when the application crashes at runtime and my logarithm reads:

I added android-support-v7-cardview, android-support-v7-gridlayout, android-support-v7-recyclerview and android-support-v7-appcompat to my project. I am using intellij idea

You need to clean your recyclerview lib project and build it again. Then create your app. Now we need to find the class.

I'm still using Eclipse and not Intellij, but it might help you as I stumbled upon this very error today after updating to the latest support library. I used to just use recyclerview utility which was copied to my project folder and added in dependencies. Apparently this is no longer the case. I had to re-add the library as a "resource library" - much like adding a map library.

For Eclipse, I just followed the instructions at https://developer.android.com/tools/support-library/setup.html from the Adding Resource Libraries section. FWIW I had to mark the newly added recyclerview as a library during the import process (it is not by default and this step was skipped in the instructions)

I got a similar error again. Make sure you are not using

<RecyclerView>

as stated in your code, and using

<android.support.v7.widget.RecyclerView>

and that your build.gradle file has the following code

dependencies {
compile fileTree(include: ['*.jar'], dir: 'libs')
compile 'com.android.support:appcompat-v7:22.2.1'
compile 'com.android.support:cardview-v7:22.2.1'
compile 'com.android.support:recyclerview-v7:22.2.1'}

Taking care of these two things fixed the error for me. If you have done anything else in your case, then please share your code so that I can point out the cause of the error.

I faced the same error today. I opened my project structure -> Modules. Expand the module and select the Android option. Install support library modules as "Library Module" then it worked

I had a save error. After half an hour, I found that the recyclerview was not marked as a "library module" in the project structure. This setting solved the problem
