Visual Studio Emulator for Android - Hyper-V No Launch

Have been trying to run Visual Studio Emulator for Android for some time with the end result of an error code from the log [Critical] XDE Exit Code: 16

, [Critical] XDE Exit Code: 3

or an infinite "Preparing virtual machine" state. I've tried numerous troubleshooting guides and various device profiles but have no success or reproduce what worked for others.

Running Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit

What I have tried:

  • Both recovery and reinstallation of the program
  • Reinstall Android Studio and SDK (along with the above in different orders)
  • Administrative permission change via Microsoft Management Console

  • Running XdeCleanup.exe

  • Create an internal switch in Hyper-V Manager

    (delete between attempts)
  • All of the above using the "Run as administrator" command

I was able to create a virtual machine using the Internal Switch

(s) I created in Hyper-V Manager

(although there is nothing to boot) and run Virtual Box successfully, so I don't believe this is a question about my BIOS setup. I would really appreciate any insight you could offer or a possible solution that worked for you with this emulator. Thanks for your help.

* Please note: There is no instance of Visual Studio on this machine (documentation suggests this is not required).

You need to be a member of the Hyper-V Administrators group. Go to Control Panel and then Local Users and Groups. Add your username to the Hyper-V Administrators group. If the group doesn't exist, create it.
