Connection error. Xcode publish error.

enter image description here

"This package is not valid. The Allie VS Shannon.app/ LaunchImage-Portrait @ 2x ~ ipad.png icon file must be in .png format."

This is the error I get when I try to submit my archive to the app store. It gets to the part where it tries to check assets with iTunes and then I get this error. I have tried a lot of things and I know that it is actually a .png file and not just a .png name.

I have "compress png files" because if enabled I get this error when I try to archive my application.

attempt at solution

  • cleaning and rebuilding
  • deletion of derivative data and recovery
  • re save image / delete and re-add
  • resize image
  • I also tried about 5 different photo editors and saved them as .png files and it still didn't work.

I opened the folder with image files in finder and deleted the entries that were causing the problems (there was a duplicate image "-1"). Then I opened my images in preview and saved them. Then I added them to the project and everything went smoothly! Now I'm waiting for App Store approval!

Check that your image files are indeed .png files. Open them with a hex editor and check the format. If the file starts with FF D8 FF, it is a JPEG file, no matter what the file extension is.
