Add image / drawing to table of contents

I use the alabaster sphinx theme and have a local table of contents (TOC) on every page that automatically includes my section titles. Is there a way to include shapes / images in the TOC?

I am including numbers like:

.. image:: ./figs/1982MNRAS.200..115S_fig2.png
    :width: 500px
    :align: center
