How to print the execution time of RMarkdown code?

Just wondering if there is a way to capture (and print) the runtime for the code snippets in the Rmarkdown doc (without packaging each snippet in system.time()

).

Ideally I would like to print the execution time under the highlighted snippets of code, but I would also be happy with a simple pivot table showing the due dates at the end of the document.

thank.
