How to pass data in Jasper reports?

I am working on Jasper reports using JasperSoft Studio. I have a huge dataset (about 50 million) that I need to fill in the reports. I can get them paginated.

But unfortunately, while I am trying to export data in Excel / PDF formats where pagination cannot be applied as required, it takes too long for ANY to load and the user has to wait until the report is completed.

Is there a way to generate and send data to the client and store it there after? So that the user knows that something is loading, and does not make them wait long.

I tried the settings given here http://community.jaspersoft.com/questions/534989/settings-required-generating-large-reports . But still it downloads the file in only and not the expected way.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
