Altium Designer 16/17 rotate schematic component with space not working

I've been working in Altium since version 10 and my usual workflow in schematic capture was:

  • Freely drag the components around using the mouse while holding down the left mouse button (attached nets do not stick to the pins of the components).
  • Holding down the mouse and pressing the spacebar will rotate the component

I recently installed a clean version 17 (i.e. not updating an existing installation) on Win10 x64 and now I have to hold down the CTRL key to perform the same actions in the schematic capture, which is very annoying:

  • To freely drag the components (so that the nets remain disconnected from the pins), I have to use CTRL + left mouse button.
  • To rotate while dragging, I need to press CTRL + Space.

I got tired of this quickly, couldn't find an option to change this behavior, I uninstalled version 17 and installed 16, which is known to work as expected in the past. Right after installation, version 16 behaved as expected (no need to use the CTRL key). But now, without any further computer / software modification, the installed version 16 behaves the same as in version 17 (i.e. the above operations require the CTRL key). No options within Altium have been changed to cause different program behavior.

Can anyone confirm this behavior? Is there an option in Altium that I am overlooking that will give me a choice of behavior in this regard?

I generally suspect the direction of Win10 / .NET, but don't know how to fix this issue.

Thank!

For anyone looking to solve this like me:

In Altium Preferences โ†’ Schematic โ†’ Graphical Editing, uncheck the Always Drag and Drop box. This should allow you to freely move and rotate components without the "ctrl" key.
