What does "MEIPASS" mean?

PyInstaller sets the attribute sys._MEIPASS

I know what it does _MEIPASS

. What does the name mean _MEIPASS

? What does it mean?

This was changed from an environment variable MEIPASS2

in version 2.0 .
Nothing in the official documentation even mentions the etymology of this variable.
It seems like it was from the very beginning of PyInstaller.

According to Codewarrior0 (AKA: David Vierra), one of the pyinstaller developers:

He comes from PyInstaller ancestor, Mc M Illan E Nterprise I of nstaller. Not sure about the PASS part though.
