SQLiteCantOpenDatabaseException: Unknown error (Code 14): Could not open database (only when unit testing the application)
So, I recently added persistence to my application and I am getting this error, but the interesting part is that the app works fine even if the objects persist them and that's it, but when I run the unit test, I get the error written above.

I'm getting desperate as I've seen tons of similar problems but nothing worked for me, so any direction or wild guess would be welcome.

So after some research I found out that the problem is with the database path
when testing:
/data/data/mehungry.com.myapplicationnavigationdawerdemo.test/databases/MeHungryApp.db
when starting the whole application:
/data/data/mehungry.com.myapplicationnavigationdawerdemo/databases/MeHungryApp.db
This was a problem, this inconsistency was fixed for me when I changed the call to the DatabaseHelper constructor
from this:
databaseHelper = new DatabaseHelper(InstrumentationRegistry.getContext());
:
databaseHelper = new DatabaseHelper(InstrumentationRegistry.getTargetContext());
Hope this can help someone at some point.
